Sue De La Bruere

Slivers of light piercing slumber

Awakening not gentle nor kind

Screaming box that taunts

Begging to be shattered

Burying, hiding, unaccepting

Blankets pulled tight to secure darkness

Luminosity at its peak, more demanding,

Eyes that are now cajoled open

Body thick with other world visions

Barely convinced to let go, to rise above

Smelling newness and sun and caffeine

Ready to dismiss all rest, inspired by novelty

Taking the dreams along as party favors

Weaving them into a walking existence

Smiles with pancakes, grins with juice,

Sweet residual joy from the journey
