A Gambian Experience

In May of last year, 2007, my daughter, Andrea went on an exchange visit of teachers to the Gambia, arranged by the Beds and Herts postgraduate medical school, by whom she was employed as a Senior Lecturer. On New Year's Eve,2007, she died of a rare and disfiguring form of cancer she had fought for twenty years, since the age of just nineteen. This poem - a true story. And a tribute to one remarkable lady.

On the morning of 6 August, 1945, the United States Army Air Forces, dropped the nuclear weapon, "Little Boy", on the city of Hiroshima. This poem is a tribute to the ordinary people, the men, women and children in the streets, who encountered hell on earth that day and lived to tell the world their story. And also the untold story of some 200,000, others who lost their lives in the ensuing months.
