I’ve got a hairline fracture
…in my soul
But, I’m holding it together.
It’s like an antique bowl of China bone
And people ask me whether
I prefer the right side or the left.
“For surely you must choose one side or the other”.
This is absurd.
“It’s a bowl!
Without both sides what good is it?
I love the whole.”
On bloody knees now I plead and beg.
“It’s like two beautiful women…
I need them like both legs.”
“You’ve got two legs already, silly
…now you know you can’t have your cake and eat it too.”
And with that statement I rue the lidless orbs that divide reality into day and night,
this or that,
wrong or right.
For weren’t we forged in the same star
A trillion, billion years ago?
I can’t explain how much it hurts.
Like a game where the players are divided into teams of shirts and skins.
“But, otherwise no one wins and none can lose…and you are wrong, and you must chose”
I’ve got a hairline fracture in my soul
…but, I’m holding it together.
